Following the Recipe

“In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.” — Proverbs 16:9

As men, we like a plan.

I use a printed time-box sheet each day. I write my three must-dos, then I brain-dump ideas, then I schedule the hours. Planning isn’t wrong — it’s wise.

But Proverbs 16:9 reminds us that while we plan the course, God is the One who directs the steps.

Think of it like following a recipe. You gather the ingredients and do the mise en place, but the next steps are what matter. If you rush the process or ignore the chef’s direction, the dish suffers.

God sees what we can’t —when to turn up the heat, when to let something simmer, and when to change direction altogether.

Today, make your plans with an open hand. Do your part faithfully, but trust God to order your steps. When He redirects you, it’s not to derail you — it’s to make something better than you planned.

Try This Today:

Make your plans today, then intentionally invite God to lead each step.Pray before you act — and be willing to follow when He adjusts the course.

Standing with you,

around the table,

Chef Bob
