“Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” 1 Corinthians 13:4–7
Love is not described here as a feeling, but as a way of living. Paul doesn’t tell us what love feels like, he tells us what love does. It is patient when we’d rather judge too quickly. It is kind when no one is watching. It refuses to keep score, demand recognition, or insist on its own way. Love doesn’t keep score — it keeps showing up.
This kind of love is strength under control. It bears with others when things are hard, believes the best when doubts creep in, hopes when circumstances look bad, and endures even when quitting would be easier. Quitting is ALWAYS easier. This is the love Christ showed us, steady, sacrificial, and unshakable.
We often assume leadership is proven by our leadership or authority. Paul’s Letter reminds us that godly leadership is proven by love lived out daily, in our words, our homes, our work, and our friendships.
Try This Today:
Choose one relationship today and intentionally practice patience or kindness in a moment you normally wouldn’t.
Standing with you,
around the table,
